Hotel information
Just five kilometres from Lucca, in the beautiful, sun-drenched Tuscan countryside, an elegant, cream-coloured nineteenth-century villa comes into view as you enter the gate. It stands fairly high on a hill, surrounded by a large garden in the typical Lucca Renaissance style, with two flights of steps leading up to the entrance, from either side. A peaceful atmosphere reigns everywhere, a balm for the soul of any traveller.
The pleasant, relaxing atmosphere that guests at Villa Marta so love, is created mainly by the cordial and attentive hospitality offered by Andrea Martinelli and his wife Alessia, who run the hotel. They personally welcome the guests and see to their every need with friendly efficiency, making them feel as if they are staying in a private home rather than a hotel.
Important information
Our hotel is an ideal base for artists and photographers.
The Margaret Cowling Arts Painting Tour, Italy 2005, found Villa Marta to be a "beautifully situated venue for a relaxing stay in the Tuscan countryside. The friendly atmosphere provided by the family-run business and attentive staff was a very warm welcome when our group returned to the Villa after each day's excursion. The rooms are all well appointed, clean, tastefully decorated with generous bathrooms. The elegant buildings and chapel are surrounded by lawn, olive groves and the Pisani hills - altogether a picturesque setting. Presentation was always exquisite and we enjoyed many wonderful meals. While we were there as a group, it would be excellent for families, couples, singles because of the relaxed atmosphere and space."
Area information
Lucca is one of the most pleasant Italian towns to enjoy a nice walk; each street in fact follows the scheme of the roman colony and the historic centre, created by small streets which open to squares, is nestled by five hundred years old city walls. Lucca is not only the hometown of Giacomo Puccini but is also full of churches in Romanic-Pisano style such as the Cathedral dedicated to San Martino which preserve masterpiece as the small octagonal altar of “Volto Santo” , the face of Christ, and the tomb of Ilaria del Carretto made by Jacopo della Quercia.
The main street is Via Fillungo, a nice walk between boutiques, old goldsmiths and nice nightclubs. All buildings of Piazza del Mercato follow the original elliptical outline of the roman amphitheatre.
